The Apollo Group of Hospitals in India has announced plans to take the number of its specialty clinics for diabetes management and care to 100 in 90 days.
The company already runs around 13 so-called Sugar Clinics for diabetics, but now plans to invest around Rs 30 crore in building a further 87 in the premises of Apollo Hospitals in various parts of the country.
Putting the diabetes clinics in the existing hospitals will give an additional advantage of accessing the services of experts in other fields also, according to Sangita Reddy, executive director of operations at Apollo Group of Hospitals.
She said: "We expect the expansion to 100 clinics in the next 90 days. However, equipment in some of these facilities would be installed by our equipment supply partners. So, the cash outlay for the clinics would be around Rs 10 crore."
Reddy added that patients will also be supported by new technology offering round the clock diabetes management services.
Patients will be able to monitor their blood sugar and blood pressure levels through a new web portal and send the readings to their doctor, if required, via a new mobile application.
